Shoghi Effendi was born on March 1, 1897. At the time of his
birth 'Abdu'l-Bahá and His family were still prisoners of the Sultan of Turkey,
Abdu'l Hamid; … In 1897 they were all living in a house known as that of
Abdullah Pasha … It was in this home that the first group of pilgrims from the
Western World visited the Master in the winter of 1898-9.
